Ten to 10
Week 4
Beginning October 1, 2015, orders for diagnostic or therapeutic services (e.g. Outpatient Labs, Radiology, Physicial Therapy) must express the reason for the service using a valid ICD-10 diagnosis code or a specific narrative description.
What do I need to know?
- Prescriptions and orders for outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic services issued now should include a valid ICD-10 diagnosis code and/or a detailed narrative description. This will minimize any potential inconvenience to our patients.
- Diagnostic areas will be contacting ordering physician practices to obtain more specific diagnosis information when necessary.
What do I need to do?
- Begin to include ICD-10 information on any prescriptions or orders for outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic services. Continue to include ICD-9 information as usual in case the service is completed before October 1st.
- If you represent a physician practice, develop your plan to respond to inquiries beginning for previously issued prescriptions and orders that do not contain ICD-10 information after October 1st.
- If you represent a diagnostic or therapeutic service area, develop your plan to handle prescriptions or orders that do not contain ICD-10 information after October 1st.
